Kauai Backcountry Tubing

3-4131 Kuhio Hwy, Lihue, HI 96766

This is an interesting tour. I really enjoyed it. . . my 8 year old, not so much.

It starts at the bottom of the mountain with gear and vans.  These vans are 4x4 and the ride is such.  During your ride you hear the history of the land and see some beautiful sights.  But the road is bumpy.  This is where my car sick proan son had his first issues. So be warned, if you get car sick be ready.

The tubing is really fun. At times you will be leisurely floating down a wonderful stream and then swiftly swept through an irrigation tunnel. Be warned, the water is "refreshing" as the guides tell us. But you get used to it.

My boy did not like the tubing.  You have know that you really do not have control of where you are going and who or what you are going to bump into.

The staff was amazing! they were so kind to my boy and was able to get him (and by default me) out halfway through and we met the group for lunch in the peaceful grotto.

After lunch you have some time for some swimming. There is a beautiful calm river that is deep enough to swim in.  I could spent hours floating on my back staring at the blue skies through the forest canopy.

This tour can be on the expensive side but I liked it.  Reservations are needed.

Kauai Mini Golf

5-2723 Kuhio Hwy #101, Kilauea, HI 96754

This is a Mini Golf experience not to be missed. When I first visited Kauai Mini Golf a few years ago, it was still growing. Now the Botanical Garden is all grown up and beautiful.

And of course there is the putting. I love the complicated holes.  The course has many water hazards (fishing net included), twists and turns.  It even has real flag sticks!

Prices are high, but you will not get a mini golf experience like this in many places.

Red Dirt Shirt factory outlet

4350 Waialo Road, Eleele, Hawaii96705

When you are in Kauai it is hard not to find some of your clothing with some of the native red dirt. Even where I played golf your divots were red dirt and they had red dirt bunkers.  It is everywhere. So why not use it as a dye for shirts?!

As featured on Mike Rowe's Dirty Jobs television show, the Red Dirt Shirt Factory Outlet is a great place to pick up your Red Dirt Shirts. Sure, the t-shirts are all over the island, but the selection at the factory outlet is much better.

Unfortunately, they do not do tours, but I can imagine the process was pretty messy when they did do tours.
